My Top Five albums

Department of Eagles – In Ear Park

There aren’t enough superlatives for me to describe how beautiful this album is. Even the cover is beautiful for crying out loud! I don’t think this will ever be surpassed in my eyes. The best opening song of any album.

Radiohead – In Rainbows

Kid A broke a lot of boundaries, but for me this album is a refinement of the experimental music process. Every track is great, and I have a special soft spot for the haunting Arpeggi/Weird Fishes.

Odd Blood – Yeasyer

I had a hard time choosing between the two Yeasayer albums, which says a lot about their quality, both albums being vastly different from each other as well as unique from the majority of the market right now. Odd Blood is just brilliant fun, whilst still feeling experimental. Also an amazing album to gym to.

The Beatles – Rubber Soul

I realise this isn’t original. Most Beatles songs can be ranked with the best music ever created. This album gets the nod over the others for having three of my favourite songs ever on one album: Norwegian Wood, Michelle and I’m Looking Through You. I think I once spent hours listening to Norwegian Wood on repeat while I read Murakami’s novel of the same name. Those were the days. I need a new author to get excited about!

Queen – Innuendo

Queen was the soundtrack to my early teens (yeah I was unbelievably square) and I still have a fondness for it to this day. There are so many good songs by Queen that picking an album is a little silly. I chose Innuendo because I think the title track is one of the best songs ever composed. The album overall is also superb.

Notable Exceptions:
Deerhoof – Deerhoof Vs Evil
Gorillaz – Plastic Beach
Mariachi El Bronx – Self Titled
Depeche Mode (Most of it)
Metric – Fantasies
Kings Of Leon – Aha Shake Heartbrake
Little Joy – Self Titled
Shugo Tokumaru – Port Entropy
Sufjan Stevens – Illinoise/Age of Adz
White Stripes – White Blood Cells
